what google tells us

when you sign in, dawn.place asks google for only your email address and the id google uses for your account.

the account id is never stored. what is stored is a one-way hash of it, a scrambled version that cannot be turned back into the original. this is enough to recognise you when you come back, and not enough to identify you anywhere else.

dawn.place cannot see your password, your contacts, your files, or anything else in your google account. the permissions it asks for do not allow it.

what do you give us?

• a display name, which you choose and can change
• an avatar colour, from the same 32 as the board
• your confirmation of being 13 years old or older

what does using the site record?

every pixel you place is recorded (where it is, what colour, when, and who) that record is permanent. it is how the timeline, pixel history, the museum and every statistic on the site work.

your streak, your totals and your position on the leaderboard are all worked out from that same record.

what's public?

public: your display name, your avatar colour, every pixel you have placed and when you placed it, your streak, and your stats.

not public: your email address. it is visible to the site owner, because moderation needs a way to tell one account from another. it is not shown to anyone else and it is not published anywhere.

cookies and other sites

one cookie is used to keep you signed in. no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, nothing that follows you to other sites.

two things do come from google though: the sign in button, and the fonts the board is drawn in. that means google can see your ip address and which page you loaded. thats the whole list, and this page you are reading right now loads nothing from anywhere.

deleting your account

you can delete your account from settings. when you do: your email address is erased, your display name is deleted and replaced by "[deleted]". your pixels will stay placed, but credited to [deleted].

one thing is deliberately kept, the hash of your google account id. it is what a ban is attached to, so deleting your account and signing up again is not a way to shake one off. if you have never been banned it is only ever used to recognise you.

age

you must be 13 or older to make an account. if you are under 13 and made one anyway, email the address below and it will be deleted.
